A LOCAL FOOD DINNER EVENT IN SUPPORT OF DURHAM SUSTAIN ABILITY! – March 6th

I am the after dinner speaker at this fundraiser for Durham Sustainability.

Durham Sustain Ability has planned a night out for anyone that eats on Thursday, March 6, 2014. If you are leading the charge on local and organic food or just looking for more information, this event is for you!

The evening will start at Bistro ’67, a new teaching-inspired restaurant which revolves around the ‘field to fork’ concept and features the produce and delicious flavours from across the Durham Region. You will then hear from Harry Stoddard, author of Real Dirt: a groundbreaking book for any reader interested in learning more about where food comes from. Mr. Stoddart shares years of experience and knowledge in his quirky dissection of agriculture and what we eat. In the book, he tackles the major food industry problems, delving into the science and economic issues surrounding sustainable farming. He navigates the “whys” and “hows” of GMOs, resistance-building doses of antibiotics, pesticides, and confinement animal housing, while elaborating on how he damaged the environment more in his first years as an organic farmer than as a conventional farmer.
