Stoddart raises the level of the discussion well above the usual rhetoric

Real Dirt is a thoughtful and well researched look at our agriculture and food system. It is brought to life with a unique well informed perspective and offers practical solutions that will make each of us think about our actions. Stoddart raises the level of the discussion well above the usual rhetoric and banter that goes back and forth. Real Dirt is a must read for anyone who is actually interested in learning about and discussing how to improve our food system for the long term.

My review of Real Dirt on my blog was aimed primarily at home cooks. In over four years as a comfort food blogger, I haven’t noticed many in my genre who concern themselves with the issues addressed by this book. I started Delightful Repast with the aim of educating home cooks and encouraging them in this direction without bashing them over the head with it. That’s the way I handle it in my offline life as well. Low key but consistent! And I’ve made some converts, I’m happy to say.

Right now I’m thinking of some of the “big name” bloggers in my genre who use, and show in photographs on their blogs, conventional meat, packaged foods that are GMO and filled with chemicals, out of season (out of the hemisphere!) produce, etc. They simply do not care about sustainability. It is so sad. What a waste of platform!
